For the Sake of Your Soul.
The Tired You Can't Sleep Off
You have rested. You took the vacation. You slept in on Saturday. You silenced your phone for a whole weekend. And still, something in you is tired in a way sleep does not reach. That is not your body. That is your soul.
Maybe as you read that, another thought rose up. Here it comes. The pitch. Another event. Another registration page. Another thing to fit into an already full calendar. That reaction is fair. You have been offered a lot of things that promised rest. Some of them even came with good worship and a beautiful venue.
So let us say it plainly from the start. This is not about a retreat. It is about your soul, and what it was made for.
What Your Soul Is Actually Asking For
Your soul was not made for more input. It was made for the Father. Not information about Him. Not a better devotional plan. Him. Beneath every other longing, the soul carries one deep need. To be with its Father with nothing in between. No agenda. No audience. No task to finish or insight to capture. Just presence. His and yours.
The psalmist knew this. "Truly my soul finds rest in God." Not in a schedule, a setting, or a sermon. In God. Augustine said it centuries later: our hearts are restless until they rest in Him. That kind of being with requires stillness. Not because God is hard to find. Because we are. The noise we carry keeps us just out of reach. Even Jesus, surrounded by need on every side, "often withdrew to lonely places and prayed." If the Son needed time alone with the Father, so do we.
We Even Fill the Sacred Spaces
Here is the honest part. We are very good at filling things. We fill the commute with podcasts. We fill quiet time with plans. We fill prayer with lists. And yes, we can fill retreats too. Sessions. Speakers. Breakouts. A packed schedule from sunrise to late night. We come home with a notebook full of takeaways and the same ache we arrived with.
If that has been your experience, your skepticism makes sense. A retreat can quietly become one more spiritual product. One more thing to consume. If all that is offered is more content, you do not need it. You already have plenty of content. The real question is not whether you go somewhere. It is whether anything stands between you and the Father when you get there.
Stillness Starts Where You Are
Martha was busy serving Jesus. Mary was simply sitting at His feet. Jesus said Mary had chosen the one thing that was needed. That one thing is available to you today. Not on a mountaintop. Here.
Try this. Put your phone in another room. Sit somewhere quiet for ten minutes. Bring no plan. Say nothing, or say only His name. Let the silence feel uncomfortable. It will. That discomfort is the noise draining out. You may find ten minutes is only enough for the surface to start settling. That is normal. A soul that has run hard for months often needs more than minutes to quiet down. Sometimes it needs days. Not because God is slow to arrive but because we are slow to land.
Either way, the Father is not waiting for you to get somewhere special. He is already in the room.
An Invitation, Not a Pitch
Kallah exists for one reason. To make room where nothing stands between you and the Father. That is why our retreats are silent. No stage. No packed schedule. No one performing for you. Just beauty, stillness, and space long enough for your soul to land. We are not adding something to your life. We are clearing things away.
If your soul is asking for days of that kind of quiet, we are gathering as a community to get still and simply be with God. Come if you are drawn and if not, take the ten minutes today anyway, not for us but for the sake of your soul. He is already waiting there.
